Coconut Leaf Weaving by Yvette CardozoTraditional skills of woodcarving, traditional canoe and cottage construction, fishing, farming and cooking and fine weaving from hibiscus, pandanus and coconut palm are regularly practiced as they have been for hundreds of years.

Local customs and traditions may be different from yours. Take the time to learn what behaviors are acceptable and what isn't.

For example, Sunday in Kosrae is a day for rest and almost all stores and shops closed on Sunday. It is illegal to drink alcohol on Sunday starting at 12AM to 12PM.

Another example would be the appropriate clothes to wear. Men are recommended to wear light casual summer clothing like pants and shorts and t-shirts while women are recommended to wear light casual dresses that covers the knee and be discreet when wearing swim wear as it is only appropriate in the water and not in town areas.
